Lame weekend. And by lame, I mean grumpy.

This past weekend was one of my lamer ones. I basically felt like this all weekend

Kyle had to work late on Friday, and then worked a total of 27 hours between Saturday and Sunday. No over-time (when being on salary can suck), just a gold star and an A for effort. So really I should have realized that I was lucky. But I like being stubborn.

Since Kyle was gone, I basically did nothing. But I felt like doing nothing.

Snickers is acting normally and wants to eat, she just hasn’t been eating as much as she used to (sick kitty story). Obviously this is all I was worried about, so doing something fun over the weekend sounded just as pleasant as having oral surgery.

Saturday morning I dragged myself out of bed and forced myself to run. Didn’t feel like leaving the house, but I knew I would feel worse if I didn’t get a run in.

Ran 5 miles, 9:46 pace. Not winning any speed awards here. I took it easy because my feet have been bothering me. They felt fine on Saturday when I took off, but I quit at 5 miles because I could start to feel some pain. (PS I’m going to the doctor this week)

Then I decided we were going to have turkey for dinner.

Yep. That’s a wild turkey on our roof. A bunch were in our yard, but luckily my dog scared them away.

I did a lot of cuddling, TV watching, book reading, and knitting with kitty.

And then my mom made me leave the house with her. I had to return a bunch of stuff so we just ran errands. It was actually good for me to get out and not be so grumpy.

Forcing me to get out of the house = forcing me to have manners = forcing me to not be grumpy

It works. But don’t tell her I said that.

Sunday was just as exciting as Saturday. For some reason I woke up early (even though I went to bed late).

Had my breakfast smoothie: spinach, almond milk, banana, protein powder, blueberries, splash of apple cider vinegar, and ground flaxseed

Did a whole lot of nothing until I decided that I wanted to cook and bake. These 2 things usually help me relieve stress.

I made my meat sauce for dinner (this is before it simmers for >2 hours). It’s one of Kyle’s favorites and I knew he wouldn’t be eating a great lunch (I later found out that his “lunch” was peanut M&M’s).

Partially cooked on Wednesday

And then some gluten free orange cranberry muffins [Instagram]

I probably could have kept baking until we ran out of everything in my pantry. But then I felt lazy for not working out (even though my feet had been bothering me). So I decided to walk on the treadmill while watching the red carpet.

This was a stupid idea. I made it to 0.3 miles until the pain got worse.

The night ended with some delicious food and watching the Oscars. All I have to say is, thanks a lot Lupita Nyong’o for making the rest of us look like slobs 😉

What do you do to relieve stress?

What’d you do this weekend?

  1. I like to just turn off and be lazy when I’m stressed, like hang out all day and watch movies and play with my idiot puppies (they always make me smile). At least that’s what I do since we moved, back when we were at our old house I’d meet my best friend for gigantic margaritas and nachos haha.

  2. OK Amy – now your little cousins have blades – anytime you want to come join them – they will make you laugh – you know it…within an hour of getting them on them – they were doing really well…it’s the new thing with the 7/8 year olds – now the big birthday party has gone from Rock’N Jump to Roller skating…they are already telling me they want a roller skating birthday party for their 8th bday party…Or anytime you want to borrow them to do something fun – or teach them how to bake even (you know they will be good for you) – you know you have my permission…

  3. I just read this and your cat update…I’m so sorry 😦 I have three cats and totally understand where you’re coming from. I can’t imagine what I’d do. Sending positive vibes and well-wishes your way…

  4. Some weekends are just like that, and you need one every once in awhile. Those muffins look insanely delicious by the way. Hope the doctor knows what is going on with your foot. That sounds really frustrating!

  5. Sometimes you need a little downtime… even in the form of a grumpy weekend. Cuddling with kitty, cooking and baking, and running around with your mom doesn’t sound so bad but not being able to run sucks. Glad you’re going to the doc this week but take it easy until then 😉

  6. lol, going out in public usually forces me to stop being grumpy too. I also did a lot of therapeutic baking and cooking this weekend.

  7. Lupita’s dress was the most gorgeous thing!
I’m sorry your foot hurts and I hope you get some good news at the doctor this week. And I’m glad that Snickers is eating!

My husband worked an insane amount of hours over the past few days too so I totally understand. (He is also terrible at eating lunch.)

  8. First of all, even if she isn’t eating quite as much I am so happy Snickers is acting normally again!

Hahaha that is so funny there was a turkey on your roof! Come to think of it, I don’t think I have ever seen one off of the ground before.
I 112% agree with your Oscar pick by the way Ahhhhhmazing.

  9. Sounds a lot like my weekend just without the wild turkeys. Now you are making me want turkey for dinner. When I am stressed I love going for a run, doing yoga, or going shopping. Nothing is more fun than a little retail therapy!

  10. Mom’s are good like that 😉

I had to work this weekend 😦 – went to a workshop on youth engagement with trail associations – so it wasn’t too bad. And I got a 6k run on the treadmill … that’s how I relieve my stress by activity.

  11. Boo for being grumpy, and running injuries can turn grumpy days into SUPER grumpy days. In my books, a day is productive if you do one or more of the following: leave the house, use the oven, or call someone on the phone. And your lame weekend included some of those! Go you! I’m glad you got to spend so much time with Snickers!

  12. I’m sorry you had a cruddy weekend. 😦 Family is good for stuff like getting us out of the house. Hopefully your week will go better and next weekend will be more enjoyable. My biggest stress reliever is to sit and do something super simple like Sudoku or puzzles while watching TV. It’s distracting and relaxing.

  13. Hey those cranberry muffins look delish!
Glad to hear Snickers is acting normal, hope she continues to improve. Good luck with the podiatrist too! BTW, loved your valentines day post, great gift ideas. And You and Kyle win the cutest couple award!

  14. You were way more productive than me this weekend. I’m glad your mom forced you out. That is what mom’s are good for! Glad to here your kitty is doing okay and now you need to take care of yourself! Hope everything gets better.

  15. I like to run… or eat a bucket of peanut m&m’s (too bad that that had to be Kyle’s “lunch” one day!). Woke up before the crack of dawn on Saturday and Sunday… but I can’t wait for this coming weekend when I can sleep in, lay around, and not do anything.

  16. Glad your mom was able to brighten your weekend, I was grumpy too. Have you posted those muffins already? I need the recipe!

  17. Wow, I haven’t seen wild turkey since I lived in Ohio…no wait, I saw some at the liquor store. 😉
I run or take the dogs for a walk to relieve stress. Hope you get better.
