things you didn't know about me thursday

My Purple Rock

Hey kids! It’s time for another Things You Didn’t Know About Me Thursday!

things you didn't know about me thursday

1. I have a good luck purple rock.

Now, I’m not an incredibly superstitious person. I do believe in karma and some luck, but I typically believe that “luck” can be attributed to other things. Like if I study a ton for a test, I didn’t have good luck. I worked my freaking ass off. If you get a speeding ticket on the way to work, you didn’t have bad luck. You chose to speed and got caught. Neither of those have anything to do with luck.

That being said, I still have a lucky purple rock.

When I was young, my dad used to travel a lot for work. I’ve been told that this caused me to act out- not at daycare/school, but as soon as I came home I would have a meltdown. After my first day of preschool, to make me feel better when he left my dad gave me a special purple rock. He told me that I could rub the rock for good luck if I needed to. I lost the rock that day…

It’s kind of been a joke that if my dad gives me something, I’ll lose it that day. But I mean come on, who gives a 3 year old a rock and DOESN’T expect them to lose it at some point? I was just being efficient.

Whelp, a couple years ago my dad got me a purple rock after a business trip as a joke. I keep it in my purse.

2. It’s a pet peeve of mine if you laugh and then say, “That’s so funny.”

I know it was. You laughed.

Also a pet peeve if you just say, “That’s so funny.” Can’t you just laugh? I don’t need a narrator.

One of the ladies on the morning radio show I listen to does this all the time. Drives me crazy. Keep in mind this applies to conversing in real life. If you’re texting, chatting online, writing posts, responding to comments- basically in a situation where you aren’t actually talking to people, I think it’s completely different.

3. I haven’t brushed my hair since maybe middle school.

You don’t brush curly hair unless you want to look like Chewbacca.

Before y’all think I’m gross and don’t groom myself, I do comb my hair in the shower with a thick-tooth comb or run my fingers through it to get out knots.

4. My family is obsessed with oranges.

I mean, we eat a lot of fruit in general, but for some reason we consume a metric ass ton of oranges when they’re in season (and they aren’t even my favorite fruit!). We’ve been known to consume a crate of oranges from Costco in under a week…

My mom and I went to Sprouts earlier this week (my first trip- so fun!). This is how many oranges we bought.

oranges sprouts

That’s 3 bags of cuties and 1 enormous bag of regular oranges (so big the bag ripped). wait, what’s moderation??

5. I tried Kombucha for the first time on Monday!

I saw it at Sprouts and had wanted to try it for a while.

My mom and I split the Guava Goddess flavor and I loved it! Smells like a butt but I just didn’t breath through my nose. Tasted like a guava flavored carbonated drink. Quite delicious!

Do you believe in luck?

Is there a food you eat a TON of?

Ever try Kombucha?

  1. I believe in luck when I have good luck! But not when I don’t–is that weird?!

I eat a ton of peanut butter. Actually, any nut butter. Currently, I’m working on some sunflower seed butter and plan on making cashew butter next. I eat it every day! And I really enjoy the ginger kombucha, but I don’t buy it often because it’s so expensive! Glad you got to try it though, and that you enjoyed it! 🙂

    1. Haha I get what you mean!

YUMMM sunflower seed butter sounds delicious! I’ve been meaning to try store bought, but it’s expensive! Haha yes kombucha was expensive so it won’t be a regular item. It was fun to try though 🙂

  2. I love the idea of a good luck rock…might have to try that with our oldest. And I love that you lost it that day! ha ha. I do believe in luck it just doesn’t always believe in me 😉 I’ve never tired Kombucha but recently saw it in a store…might have to give it a go. I eat a tone of cheese and peanut butter but not together.

    1. Aww yes try it! I thought it was the coolest thing when I was little- clearly I loved it if I still remember it 😉 YUM cheese and peanut butter are the best (but I agree, not together)

  3. I love the story about the purple rock! My dad used to travel a ton when I was little as well, and I was always a little type-A scared that something would happen to him when I couldn’t see him. The purple rock is SUCH a cute idea — for a kiddo or adult.

  4. I am superstitious in the way that I won’t wash a certain football jersey until the team loses (it’s not as gross as it sounds I promise), but I don’t have anything like your purple rock. Actually it’s pretty awesome that you only lost the rock and didn’t swallow it which I’m pretty sure would happen if I gave something like that to Betty.

And #2 is so funny. I laughed, but you can’t see me or hear me so that’s why I’m telling you that it happened. 🙂

I have never tried Kombucha, but I want to! I’ve heard the butt-smelling thing about it before though. I will just do what you did and not breathe while drinking it.

    1. Haha I’m superstitious with sports! I forgot about that! LOL or did I swallow it?? The only story I remember is that I was very sad because I “lost” it at school 😉

HAHAHA yes I don’t mind if we aren’t talking in person. I’ve just always thought it was weird if a person tells me, “OMG that was so funny!” but they don’t really laugh…

Lol yes it does unfortunately smell like butt!

  5. Love the lucky purple rock. How could a purple rock not be lucky, though?! That is a lot of oranges. You can’t really pass up those amazing cuties though!

  6. Glad you’re getting your citrus! I am a sports person, so yes, I have all sorts of lucky charms/superstitions. From items and charms to the position I sit on the couch during a game, I have to find the ‘lucky’ position.

    1. Yes, I realized I am superstitious when it comes to sports too! When the 49ers were in the playoffs I would only wear my lucky 49ers shirt. One time I didn’t wear it because I forgot to wash it and they lost. I was convinced it was my fault lol. Haha are you like Sheldon with your seat?

      1. Hahaha, I remember when the Mavs won the NBA championship, Jennie knew to leave the room. If she ever came in and asked how it was going, I would give her a look and she would turn and run away. Hahaha, it finally worked though!

  7. Hmmmm…. Now I’m self-conscious.. Do I say that’s funny when I laugh??? Hmm… No I think actually it’s more of, OMG I’m dying or I’m gonna die lol! The rock is super cute! I also haven’t tried Kombucha from a store, but I think my mom was used to do it at home when I was little. That thing is quite scary looking haha! xoxo

  8. I absolutely love your thoughts on luck and bad luck. I wish I thought like that… I try not to be superstitious, but some things in my life seem to always push me to being superstitious no matter how much I try to change my views. Maybe it’s part superstition and part OCD.
Apples are definitely a food my family and I consumed like crazy. Bushels full. I remember one day when I was really young that I ended up maxing out with apples and got my mom to cut me at least 4 (I wasn’t allowed to cut them) in one afternoon. I love apples like no other.

    1. Thank you! Haha I DO get superstitious when it comes to sports though 🙂
YES apples are the best! We go through those like crazy too! HAHA that’s so cute!!! Hopefully your tummy didn’t hate you later!

  9. #1-The rock story is the cutest ever.
#2 made me laugh (I had to tell you because you can’t hear me laughing). It bugs me when people say “that’s too funny.” Can something be too funny? really?
#3-I don’t own a hairbrush. my hair is curly, but not nearly as curly as yours!

  10. Love the rock story! I’m not sure about luck but I always try not to jinx myself…like not get too ahead of myself. Don’t judge me, but sometimes I say “that’s so funny” when I don’t think somethings funny and can manage a good fake laugh..does that make me a bad person?

  11. Oh shit! I always say “that’s so funny.” There’s a pause after you’re done laughing. What else do you say to fill the space? This might be sign #1 that I’m awkward 🙂 Love the purple rock! That’s really cute that you carry it in your purse. I have something tied to my key chain that reminds me of someone and every time I see it in my purse it makes me smile.
