Life Stuff

Exciting News!

Hey friends! Yes, I know I’ve been a bad blogger and have not posted/read blogs in many many days. Life has been crazy lately with moving logistics and other fun stuff so unfortunately the first thing to go was blogging.

Kyle and I move THIS coming weekend!! Yep. Holy crap.

I’m incredibly excited + happy + sad + nostalgic + stressed + tired + just about any other emotion you can think of. I’m so happy to start this next part of my life with my best friend/boyfriend/lobster. At the same time, I didn’t realize how sad I would get as I pack up my childhood room. AND to top it off I realized that I only have ~1 week left with my dog (I get to take my cats).

We’re kind of best buds so this will be hard. I guess I’ll just steal her from home a lot.

If any of you have purchased a house and moved ALL of your belongings (we’re not talkin’ dorm room move here), you know how crazy things can get. All I think about is boxes now. I am assuming it is inappropriate to hang out in Costco and follow customers out of the store and ask if they want that huge box their crap comes in? And PS the sound of packing tape makes my ears bleed.

In other exciting news (and also why I haven’t been blogging)…

I got into George Washington University!!

Starting this September, I will be working towards my Masters of Public Health! This has been a dream of mine for some time now so I’m pretty ecstatic.

Now, I know some of you are thinking- wait, didn’t she just buy a house in California (GWU is in DC)? Yes. And no we are not moving to DC.

Early on this year I decided that I wanted to pursue a Masters degree online. I know some people will look down on this but they can kiss my a$$. I realized the following (Please note that this only applies to my situation and I would never judge any of your career/educational paths):

  1. I don’t want to put my life on hold and ask Kyle to move (and thereby asking him to put his career on hold).
  2. I don’t want to put my career on hold. Yes I’m selfish and want my hands in both cookie jars. Keep on going with my job. Keep on going with school.
  3. If I keep working full-time, work will pay for some of my tuition. ‘Nough said.

So I decided to apply to online programs and happened to get into a great one for public health!

I fell in love with this program because the courses are taught by the same teachers as the on-campus program. I didn’t want my education to suffer by taking online courses, but now I will be taking the SAME courses (taught by the same teachers)! Additionally, they don’t make you declare a specialty like some MPH programs. I honestly am fascinated by all aspects of public health, so picking one would have been hard. So if I pass all my courses, in 2 years I will have a legit Masters degree!

Anyways, I apologize for being absent. I hope to be more present, but this week will be filled with work, packing, running (if I have time), and moving. I do have a post coming up regarding the blog writing process! I’m waiting to hear back from a couple blog friends before I post πŸ™‚

Catch me up on your life!

Have any funny moving stories?

    3. HECK YES to pursuing your education at a prestigious university however you chose! I want to get my MBA and that is something I am struggling with so I appreciate your sharing!

    1. LOL OMG I can’t believe I have a house either!!! Thank you sooo much love! I can’t wait to share my nerdy info with you πŸ˜‰ OMG you should totally get your MBA if that’s what you want! I’ll share my experience and hopefully won’t scare you off πŸ˜‰

  2. so many good things a-happening in your life, girl — so, so happy for you. i hope you settle into that house and stop feeling stressed soon, and that you and Kyle are loving every moment of living together from the get-go. and CONGRATS on pursuing your Master’s! i teach some online college courses and i agree that this is such a valid option and i commend you for chasing this dream.

  3. CONGRATULATIONS! On both fronts. Online is going to be perfect because of course you don’t want to leave Cali when you just bought your first house. I did my masters online and it was wonderful. Who needs someone talking at you for an hour when you can independently study, do project-based learning, and do lots of online forum posts with classmates and teachers? It’s more applicable and accessible, I think.

My husband and I moved from apartment to apartment about 5 times before we bought our house and I was able to get extra boxes from the grocery store but the liquor store also had a ton of them! They were smaller sized boxes but at least that made them lighter to carry. Eventually we purchased a bunch of nice boxes of multiple sizes from home depot or uhaul or something. They were a great investment because we re-used them a couple times and then a friend or two borrowed them from us at least twice. They break down easily for storage.

  4. YOU’RE BACK!! I MISSED YOU!!! AHHHH CONGRATS!!!! If I ever went back to school it would be online like that. This is so exciting. You know what though…maybe you should come visit GWU at some point just to check it out. Haha let me know if it happens and we will go get fro yo.

Obviously huge congrats on the move as well and I’m still suffering from total house envy. Slim pickins in that department around here right now.

BTW I got some wonderful mail from you and THANK YOU VERY MUCH. I’m excited to try it out!!

    1. Thank you so much love!! I’m super pumped! YESSSSSSS I will make at least one trip out to DC- most likely for graduation lol. But I’m penciling in our frozen yogurt date πŸ˜‰

YAYYY so glad you go the package! Hope my drawings didn’t scare ya away πŸ˜‰

  5. Woohoo! You have a lot of awesome stuff going on in your life right now! Congratulations! I think getting your masters online is an awesome idea. That’s how I plan on doing mine in the future. A lot of teachers do it that way. Good luck with everything! I know it will all be amazing!

  6. yay, congrats on everything! I was following along on instagram and twitter. So exciting for you! As for what I’ve been up to? Well, just being awesome I guess. haha! Again, congrats!

  7. I am so excited for you! You are just doing such amazing things lately and it couldn’t be more deserving. I always love and look forward to reading your posts. I always get a great laugh. Go Amy!

  8. Congrats! My masters program was all online except for the clinical portions, and I feel like my online graduate education was better than my on campus undergraduate education. If anyone looks down on that, then they are stupid. That’s how I feel about that πŸ™‚

  9. Congrats! What an exciting time for you!! The masters program sounds like it’s a perfect fit for your life. I got my MBA part time while working and it was a great decision. I would have loved a full time program, but I’m so glad not to have that debt!
